It’s your first interview for a financial position at a company based in a ski town. You confidently state to your potential employer that you managed a multi-million dollar fund. Don’t be offended when he says, “yeah, great, so have you looked into housing market here, do you have a 4 wheel drive, does your significant other like the snow?”
I remember contemplating my last venture, life adventure, discussing it with a friend, and saying, “Well, I really want to try this, but I just don’t know if I can afford to do it right now”. Her reply, “How can you afford not to do it?” This is a fairly typical response from my friends in Jackson. No question, some of the most valuable education received in my life has simply been through living in Jackson Hole.
After slacking off a bit during the holidays, I was catching up on what people were saying in the ski town blogs and forums these days, started scrolling through about a hundred unread posts and decided to stop and read a discussion going on about whether or not this young professional male who had lived in the same area for most of his life should move to Durango, Colorado.
So this past week Jackson Hole has been a very different place. I never thought when I moved out here that someone would die at the place I was going to work, but it has really been a wake up call.
