College Students, Wilderness Instructors, It’s Time To Start Thinking About Summer Jobs For 2009!

True, winter season is just getting started, ski resorts are starting to open and everyone in the mountains is mainly focused on the snow but for college students on the path to an outdoor career and for those who work two full-time seasonal careers, now is a good time to secure next summer’s seasonal job!

Hone those outdoor skills! Here is one of the latest summer jobs posted for ‘09. Camp Horseshoe is located on 140 acres of woodlands and 3,000 ft. of shoreline on picturesque Snowden Lake. They are currently seeking Wilderness Trip Leaders to organize and lead overnight camping trips and teach wilderness skills such as hiking, canoeing, and firebuilding. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college. They are also hiring Climbing Wall/Challenge Course Instructors to work on the challenge course, zipline and climbing wall.

I went away to a camp based in the mountains on a beautiful lake for almost ten years and was both a camper and a counselor. The experience I had at camp truly shaped my life. Nowhere did I learn more about relationships, responsibility, independence, freedom, fun, sports and the outdoors. As a counselor, to be a part of teaching kids all about this is pretty special. I highly recommend it!
