Park City Jobs – Live and Work in an Olympic Ski Town
Cosmopolitan, Sophisticated and Cultural…these are not words typically used to describe a mountain town in Utah…unless the town being discussed is Park City. Nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, at an elevation of 6980 feet, Park City is a former mining town that made the transformation to winter playground. But don’t think that because it is a resort town that Park City jobs are only available in the tourist industry.
Don’t misunderstand. There are plenty of employment opportunities in if you are interested in catering to tourists. Park City, with its three first-rate ski resorts, was the host of the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is well known that Park City offers world class ski slopes, but it is also famous for cross-country skiing plus helicopter skiing, cat skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the backcountry. The summer months offer fishing & hunting, hot air balloon flights, biking, boating, golfing, hiking and rafting/kayaking. All of these activities offer numerous opportunities to find winter jobs as well as summer jobs.
The outdoor lifestyle isn’t the only thing that attracts the masses to Park City. Cultural events are prominent on the year round itinerary for residents and visitors alike. Park City is home to the Sundance Film Festival which attracts a sophisticated international crowd every February. Food connoisseurs enjoy the Park City Food & Wine Classic, an annual wine festival featuring hundreds of wines and the finest restaurants. Another famous cultural event is the Artstravaganza, a month-long celebration of visual and performance arts. Even the weekly Park Silly Sunday Market a funky, fun, open air market gets international billing in the Park City activities calendar.
Easy access to a major metropolitan area is one advantage that truly sets Park City apart from other top-notch ski resorts. Salt Lake City, with its international airport, is only a 30 minute drive away. Park City has it all…easy accessibility, world class skiing and a distinctly cosmopolitan style. There are very few places in the world where people can even imagine the possibility of commuting to work in a major city while living in a ski community. Residents of Park City have this luxury. Park City and the surrounding area in Summit County have grown to an estimated population of 15,000 people. Because of its proximity to Salt Lake City this mountain community has seen major growth as a bedroom community.
An additional reason for the economic and population growth of Park City and the surrounding area is the Governor’s well implemented plan for economic development which includes focused development on leading Utah industries. A few of the focus industries being supported in the plan are life sciences, specifically personalized medicine, outdoor products & recreation, software & information technology, energy & natural resources and financial services. Park City and Summit County offer several career opportunities in some of these focus industries.
Obviously, the Governor’s plan is working. The Kauffmann Foundation has rated Utah as having the nation’s most “dynamic economy.” Forbes Magazine ranked Utah as the “second best place in the nation to do business.” In 2006, while the rest of the United States had a job growth rate of 1.9%, the State of Utah outperformed the nation in job growth at 4.9%. With 54,000 total new jobs created many of the new opportunities are Park City jobs. In 2007 job growth is up to 5.4%.
Park City offers a unique lifestyle that appeals to a widely diverse population. Many flock to the area to work and live the hassle-free vacation lifestyle all year round by catering to tourists in order to make a living. Others come to work in industries which have enjoyed the support of the Governor’s plan for economic development. All of these combined Park City jobs add to the economic growth of a state that has been lauded by Forbes Magazine and others. When you combine the great economic climate with the outdoor lifestyle that spans every season and the culturally rich events scheduled all year round, it is easy to see why Park City is considered the place to live and to work.
