Well not really, more like a hike a week. And, if you were looking for apples, you might find an apple tree somewhere when hiking near a river or stream, it’s happened before.
Anyway, if you live in the mountains and have the desire better your overall health, and to obtain that rock hard physique you’ve always wanted, this is an excellent way to start. A solid regiment of once a week hiking, mountain biking, jogging, rock climbing, snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, etc… will have you blending in with the scenery (the rocks that is) in no time.
It’s good to stay physically fit, and while all these activities are great, this snippet will focus primarily on ‘hiking’ for it’s simplicity and broad scope of influence.
All systems go
When you walk in the ‘flatlands’ your body becomes adapted to the same repetitive movements; however, when you hike in the mountains you’ll discover that it takes an entirely different set of muscles to navigate this unique, and sometimes challenging terrain. Going into details about muscle structure here would be silly and impossible, yet, if you dedicate yourself to exploring any of the numerous hiking trails everywhere, you’ll begin to understand the vast health benefits associated with using nature’s ‘stair master’.
Don’t over do it!
You don’t even need to hike, just a leisurely stroll down a scenic mountain road can also yield many healthy results. Subtle increases in road grade (steepness) can add up quickly when walking long distances. And remember, once a week is good to start if you put aside enough time (3-4 hours?) towards any physical activity. If you make a conscious effort to do this, you’ll quickly feel the results.
The road to come
Dedicated, once a week exercise will have an immediate effect on many aspects of your health. Once your body begins noticing the overall health increase associated with hiking, and other sports, you’ll likely want to explore more and do more in the great outdoors.
And, there’s plenty to do here; the mountains have a unique history and many awe inspiring landmarks associated with it. Searching for them is not only a great way to keep in shape, but also to spend time with family and friends, and to learn about the rich heritage associated with this great land.
