Finding a Career Position in a Mountain Town

If you are considering a move to a smaller, more laid back mountain town, you may be wondering if there is any career positions available to you once you get there. Of course the best thing to do is to take a trip out to the mountain town you are considering for your residency and see what is available job wise, but there are some considerations to keep in mind when looking for a career position.

A career position is one that you will offer you growth potential so it stretches far beyond one working at a retail chain store. You also need to keep in mind that mountain towns are in fact smaller and by proxy, so too will the job opportunities that exists there be.

However, there are still always going to be a number of career positions that are available no matter how big or small the mountain town you desire to live in may be. Here are some career positions that will offer plenty of challenges and growth opportunities as well:

•    Teaching: Every mountain town needs good teachers. Teaching can be a great career position for you as there is always going to be room for growth. You can start as a teacher and work your way to an administrative position after a certain amount of time. After that you can always go for the school board.
•    Political: A career position in politics will offer you a wide variety of options both to start with and then moving forward. There will always be a need for solid representatives in any mountain town and these jobs can be the perfect fit for you if you have a way with people.
•    Law Enforcement: Another necessity in any town, mountain or otherwise, is quality law enforcement. Law enforcement can offer you a great career position as you can start out working as a deputy and work your way up to the sheriff if you have the right stuff.
•    Fire Fighting: Here is another necessity for any mountain town and also a wonderful career position opportunity for you. Working in the local fire station in the mountain town which you decide to live in will give you plenty of opportunities to advance. While the starting salary of a fire fighter may not be all that enticing, if you put your time in and do a good job, there is more than enough room for you to advance as high as your abilities will take you.

Every mountain town in the United States will vary when it comes to employment. Some will have more than others, but all of them will have to at least have job opportunities available in the teaching, political, law enforcement, and fire fighting areas. While there are other jobs you can get at these smaller towns, you typically won’t find an overabundance. If you are looking for a career position in a mountain town, then you may want to take a closer look in some of these areas and see what is actually available before you decide if the town is right for you or not.
